The [Ninja Turtles] henchmen Bebop and Rocksteady have hijacked the musical genres for us just like the Lone Ranger hijacked the William Tell Overture for our parents.

The Random Lab Monkey Strikes Again...

I don't even know how I can preface her statement. Well, I have some ideas but they would all probably lead to a gi-normous let down in comparison to, and this may be important, HER comment:

The plural of cervix is a good time.

Read it, ponder, and then read it again.

Note that this was not some anonymous Google referrer but a genuine person.

Oh, and by the way, it's Friday so I'll get the "10" up later but this little treat needs further discussion and perhaps some helpful analysis.

Key questions:
1) I laughed (quite a lot); was this an appropriate response?
2) Can this be topped? If so, how?
3) Please play along at home, how would you finish the phrase, "the plural of cervix is _____________"? (note: I went with success, this was not deemed quite as funny as RLM's)

The thing about a joke like that is the spontaneity and the person delivering it. She just went up 69% on the scales, both sheer awesomeness and the meter scale. As in, the I want to meet her scale.

It can't be topped. I declare it so.

Even though I know that is a poorly constructed sentence because I ended it with a preposition. It sounds better that way.

I've been informed that it's terribly important that you chose not to round that number up to 70%.

Perhaps we have inadvertently stumbled upon the reason Fulsome is single?

fulsome, I thought I was being funny, but was apparently too obvious with my subtlety.

Since, when is fulsome single? I thought he was dating a woman? Or was that picture and all the stories were false witness?

Have you been bearing false witness again, fulsome? Or should I say falsome?

My attempt at humor shall not live up to the standard set by RLM, but here they are.

The plural of cervix is in your dreams.

The plural of cervix is service.

I live for moments like that. But don't try to stretch it thin -- part of the humor is in the sudden side-swiping, serendipitous juxtaposition. A stale but adequate example: after praise for a fit of thoughtful adultitude, Dawn asks Buffy when she can accompany her older sister on vampire patrol. Buffy replies "Not until you are never." Extremely funny the first time, delivered with the proper thoughtlessness, but doesn't bear the weight of repetition or extended riffing.

My advanced degree in laffology allows me to drain the blood from any joke, and not be prosecuted in the state where my license was issued.

Well, obviously modern culture depends on beating funny phrases into the ground. While referencing these things occasionally is the mark of superb wit, bringing them up to showcase your "hip-ness" is what makes it impossible for me to care about Sienfeld.
